Seit dem Ende des 13. Jhdts bis 1420 Zentrum jüdischen Lebens kommt es 1421 zur grausamsten Judenverfolgung des Mittelalters und zur neid- und hasserfüllten Vertreibung und Ermordung von 800 Juden.
Christen war der Geldverleih gegen Zinsen nicht gestattet, weshalb Juden eine Monopolstellung zufiel, die zu hohen Zinssätzen führte und damit den Neid der Wiener zusätzlich schürte.
