Die Peterskirche ist eine der ältesten Kirchen Wiens. Ihre Entstehung geht auf das 11. Jahrhundert zurück. Den Grundstein zum Neubau legt Leopold I. am 22.04.1702.
Der Rohbau von Gabriele Montani wird durch Lukas von Hildebrandt fertig gestellt. Die hochbarocken Kuppelfresken malt Johann Michael Rottmayr von Rosenbrunn 1770.
