129 vor Chr. war Ephesos die Hauptstadt der römischen Provinz Asia. Sie galt als zweitwichtigste Stadt des Oströmischen Reiches nach Konstantinopel. Es beherbergte den, der Fruchtbarkeitsgöttin geweihten Artemistempel, eines der sieben antiken Weltwunder. Er war etwa dreimal so groß wie der Zeus-Tempel in Olympia.
Im Ephesos-Theater fanden 24.000 Zuschauer Platz. Am 11.12.1978 wird das Ephesos Museum in der Neuen Hofbug eröffnet. Geschenke des Sultans, welche den österreichischen Archäologen um 1900 aus Dankbarkeit gemacht wurden, sind hier ausgestellt.
129 BC Ephesus was the capital of the Roman province of Asia. It was considered the second city in the Eastern Roman Empire to Constantinople. It accommodated those who consecrated fertility goddess Artemis Temple, one of the seven wonders of ancient world. It was about three times as large as the Temple of Zeus in Olympia.
In Ephesus Theatre were 24,000 spectators place. On 11.12.1978, the Ephesus Museum in the Neue Hofburg was opened. Gifts of the sultan, which the Austrian archaeologists in 1900 in gratitude has been made, here are issued.
